Parking for residents

Parking for residents, within the Lydiat Lane, Chorley Hall Lane and
Carlisle Street area continues to be a problem.

During not only office hours, but beyond, indiscriminate all day/ night
parking is severely compromising local residents.

Despite representations to East Cheshire Council, I was informed
of an initial meeting to be held “within 3 months” this has not materialised,
furthermore this has now been scheduled after a consultation due in
Knutsford.

There appears no respite, despite temporary parking being used in George
Street, mainly because no yellow lines have been replaced due to
resurfacing.

Action is needed soon in all affected areas of the village!

Can anyone explain why each weekend the village is gridlocked with traffic? Is this some malevolent wheeze of Cheshire’s road planning authority to prove to us all just how much we need the relief of the bypass that is scheduled to cause another two years of inconvenience or is it simply that, within divine scheme of things that prevails in our local planning department, nobody actually plans anything. Much as each occupant of every car that trails sedately through must enjoy becoming better acquainted with Alderley and the delights it has to offer, can someone, somewhere, give us all a break.

I for one was disappointed to see the recent opening of the new supermarket over the road from the Co-operative. I refuse to enter the place for fear of the impact on other local businesses. What do you think of the new store?

Give yourself a spring tonic with our floral walk

After all those months of sub-zero cold the recent warmer, brighter weather has prompted an explosion of floral delights as natural and cultivated blossoms finally burst forth with a kaleidoscope of joyful colours to announce the arrival of spring.

This National Trust walk sets off through the bluebell woodlands of the Alderley Edge estate, which are particularly beautiful just now, for the formal splendour of Hare Hill Gardens with its vibrant collection of rhododendrons and azaleas.

Along the way you’ll pass by a variety of trees in seasonal bloom, such as chestnuts and rowan, and all proudly displaying their new growth of shoots and leaves.

Then just before you arrive at the Gardens you will find that the meadow after Alder Wood is strewn with spring flowers and the Graylag geese on the lake to your left are trailing fluffy flotillas of goslings in their wake.

The centre piece of Hare Hill Gardens is a tranquil walled enclosure laid out with a lawn surrounded by ornamental flower beds, a pergola and wire sculptures. Outside the wall there are more than 70 varieties of rhododendrons and azaleas in a riot of colours : every shade from cream and white to pink, red and purple.

Until the end of this month the Gardens are open from 10 am to 5 pm Monday to Sunday and from Jun 2 – Oct 28 on Wed, Thrs, Sat and Sun only. So banish those winter blues at last and enjoy the flowers whilst you can.

We have just published the last walk in our series from Graham Beech, author of East Cheshire Walks, on wilmslow.co.uk.

A challenging 20 mile walk offering some stunning views which took the author approximately 9 hours to complete.

In fact almost every house in Britian has been published!

Not sure if this a good thing or bad!

Great for house hunter, bad for security!
